| Chauncey is a student who would rather be playing sports than studying. He dreams wonderful dreams of how great things can be. He wants to have fun and know that people are happy. |
| Hayley is Chauncey’s best friend. She helps Chauncey with his studies in a non-judgmental way. She likes to hang out and be accepted by people. |
| Windsor is very smart at his studies, especially history. He is a pessimist and thinks that his studies is all there is to life. He wants Chauncey to focus on schoolwork more. Windsor is quick to remind Chauncey of the annoying things in life whenever he catches Chauncey daydreaming. |
| Mouse Dreamer is a comic feature I created based on an illustrated story I did in 2002 called Chauncey & Hayley. I had finished writing my novella The Supernatural Club in spring 2002 and wanted to start a new work. On a side note, the whole basis of the The Supernatural Club story was about a corrupt CEO, and when I was finishing it was when the Enron controversies and other controversies involving corrupt executives were coincidentally happening. | |
| All the names in Mouse Dreamer are kept the same as Chauncey & Hayley, even the oddly named teacher Mrs. Aurele. I named him Chauncey, probably inspired by the Old English writer Chaucer. Chauncey & Hayley was only five pages long, excluding the cover page, but it is the work I did that eventually led up to starting Among Wolves in March 2003. There were times in Chauncey & Hayley that Chauncey was starting to look just like Cheeskers from Among Wolves. I mention in my About page that Cheeskers is a character that I created way back in 1996. | |
| In 2005, I decided to see how Chauncey would look like as its own comic strip. I decided to update the character designs to distinguish it from Among Wolves, and redo the whole thing; I even chose to use a new font, unlike Among Wolves which is all handwritten. The new Among Wolves character I created in summer 2005, Mitchell, seems to be influenced by the character design of Windsor. If you look closely, you might find a certain device which can be found in all Mouse Dreamer strips. The first seven of these strips can be found in Among Wolves archive week 85 (I reran the first 6 because I was on vacation that week). More Mouse Dreamer toons to come in the future! | |
